BLOG 2 PART B

This quote "Throughout the Middle Ages women were the pawns of men," represents how women were inferior to men. The male population controlled everything, while the woman's job was to stay home and  bear children. According to Bogin on page 22, it states " if a young wife...failed to produce an heir after a reasonable amount of time, she was returned to her family, and the bride payment was refunded to her husband." This was how much power the male population had over the woman. Woman did not possess any rights, which was unruly and unjust because they were viewed as piece of property.

After the Crusades, there was a major reduction in the population of men. This was an the beginning of a new era for woman, because woman began  to take on more roles. For example, according to page 35, woman began to have direct control of of fiefs that had been run by men previously. Some woman began to take the reigns of power as well such as Phillipia, the first troubadour. Specifically women troubadours belonged to a favored generation at this time. The following aspects affected these troubadours such as their legal heritage, aristocratic birth, and the affects of the Crusades.

Now in this day and age, we have so many more rights. We are treated as individuals, have the right to make our own decisions, and hold top positions in different job markets. Today women are no considered property and can do more than just bear children. We have come such a long way. Although we do have more rights, not everything is completely equal. For example, woman have limited roles in the church. Only priests and deacons can be men in the Catholic church.
